  • 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for whipped cream)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (for whipped cream)

For the Strawberry Layer:

  • 2 quarts fresh strawberries, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon Amaretto liqueur (for added flavor)

For the Cake Layer:

  • 1 angel food cake, torn into bite-size pieces

Instructions:

Preparing the Cheesecake Layer:

  1. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth and creamy.
  2. Stir in sour cream, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip heavy whipping cream, vanilla extract, and sugar until stiff peaks form.
  4. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until incorporated.

Preparing the Strawberry Layer:

  1. In a large bowl, combine sliced strawberries, sugar, and optional Amaretto liqueur. Let the mixture stand for approximately 30 minutes to allow the juices to release and create a flavorful syrup.

Assembling the Trifle:

  1. Start by layering half of the prepared strawberries in a large glass trifle bowl.
  2. Top the strawberry layer with a layer of angel food cake pieces.
  3. Add a generous layer of the cheesecake filling over the cake.
  4. Repeat the layers, ending with a layer of cheesecake filling.
  5. Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.

Tips for Trifle Perfection:

  • Shortcuts: For a time-saving option, you can use store-bought whipped cream instead of making your own.
  • Cake Alternatives: Experiment with different cake varieties. Pound cake or sponge cake can be delicious substitutes for angel food cake.
  • Strawberry Intensity: To intensify the strawberry flavor, use frozen strawberries and let them thaw before slicing.
  • Garnish: Enhance the visual appeal of your trifle by garnishing it with fresh strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream before serving.
  • Make-Ahead: This dessert is perfect for make-ahead entertaining. Assemble the trifle a day in advance for optimal flavor development.

By following these steps and incorporating the provided tips, you'll create a stunning and irresistible Strawberry Cheesecake Trifle that will be the highlight of any dessert table. Enjoy this delightful treat with friends and family!
